Thais want good, honest and competent PM

Bangkok (Manager Online) – 39.79 percent of Thai people voted for good, honest and acceptable prime minister while 21.82 percent for competent and responsible premier.

Rajabhat Suan Dusit University surveyed 3,003 respondents nationwide. 37.96 percent were in Bangkok whereas 62.04 percent in provinces.

57.82 percent said they expected to see a new government which was set up by a new political party while 42.18 percent still adhered to the old political power.

As for the qualifications of the new prime minister, respondents seemed to give importance to honesty, competence and responsibility.

41.05 percent voted for Anand Panyarachun to be the next premier if possible whereas 26.15 percent for Abhisit Vejjajiva and 11.59 percent for Thaksin Shinawatra.

Abhisit Vejjajiva, Chuan Leekpai and Mingkwan Saengsuwan were favorite choices in terms of persons who were entitled to become the prime minister according to the 2007 Constitution.

They were also first choices among Bangkokians as well as rurual people, and higher percentage could be seen in the countryside.

First priority problems for the new government were economy and unemployment (43.08%), political reform and anti-corruption (28.93%), and tourism (11.51%) respectively.
