Government’s popularity declines after Thaksin’s phone-in

Bangkok - The government’s popularity dropped after the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra made a phone-in to the Truth Today program, according to a poll.

Assumption University surveyed 5,416 respondents in 18 provinces nationwide.

Government only got 3.97 of 10 points for its righteousness. People’s level of stress was still high at 5.88.

Tendency of the national government and new politics concept rose from 5.08 to 6.02 and 5.42 to 5.58 respectively.

Over 30 percent lost their faith in Thaksin after his phone-in while 66.7 percent thought Thaksin’s phone-in made the political situation worse.

62.9 percent said it was not the right time to amend the constitution while 37.1 percent thought it was.

65.2 percent believed the charter change would lead to escalating conflict.

40.6 percent said they would vote for the Democrat Party if there were a new election while 39 percent would vote for the People Power Party (PPP).

20.4 percent thought they would vote for other parties.
