Bangkok - Most of Thai people agreed to Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin’s decision to resign after the National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) verdict and would still vote for a candidate from the Democrat Party in the next Bangkok Governor election, according to a poll.
Bangkok University surveyed 1,225 respondents in Bangkok on November 13. 46.1 percent were men while 53.9 percent women.
Apirak announced his resignation on November 12 after the NCCC said he was guilty in the fire boat and truck case.
His resignation would be effective since November 20 onwards.
69.2 percent agreed that Apirak stepped down to set a norm for other politicians in the future.
30.8 percent thought he should wait for the court’s verdict to prove his innocence.
14.4 percent said it wasted the election budget.
31 percent thought the Democrat Party’s popularity declined after Apirak’s resignation while 16.7 percent said the popularity increased.
52.3 percent believed Apirak’s announcement would not affect his party’s popularity.
40.2 percent would vote for the Democrat Party’s candidate in the next Bangkok Governor election.
66.8 percent of those who voted for Apirak in the previous election said they would still vote for a candidate from the Democrat Party.
