Bangkok - Pol Capt Chalerm Yoobamrung, one of the possible candidates for the prime minister post, this morning attended the special cabinet meeting, but refused to give any comment on the issue.
A source close to Chalerm said he was preparing to move from the People Power Party (PPP) to Pua Thai Party.
The source also said Chalerm already knew he would be among candidates for the premier post, adding that Chalerm would certainly not be the party’s leader or executive, adding that.
“He knows he is the most favorite candidate for the post and second to none. He is a qualified person in terms of seniority and political experience.”
Preecha Lengsombulsuk, acting Interior Minister, revealed the cabinet meeting would hold a special parliamentary session to select the new prime minister.
He believed several PPP MPs were qualified for the premier post.
Apivan Viriyachai, second deputy House Speaker, and former industry minister Mingkwan Saengsuwan are also favorite candidates.
The PPP would call a meeting on December 7 to discuss the issue.
The new prime minister will be elected during a special session on Monday and Tuesday, according to The Nation daily newspaper.
