Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 41.1 percent of Thai people said the constitution amendments would be acceptable for the majority people in the Thai society, according to a poll.

1,260 respondents in Bangkok were surveyed on May 20-21.

30.2 percent thought the acceptable charter change was impossible while 28.7 percent were uncertain.

35.1 percent said the political reform to pave way for stable politics was possible whereas 29.6 percent said it was impossible.

41.8 percent believed that the social divide would not be mended while 29.6 percent voiced their opinion that the social conflict could be solved.

As for the charter change, 70.9 percent wanted all Senators to come from elections.

64.2 percent agreed that the issue of political party disbanding should be omitted and particular party executives should be punished instead of the whole party.

58.3 percent also agreed that the one MP per constituency should be practiced.

41.5 percent disagreed that MPs should be allowed to hold other political positions such as minister’s adviser or minister’s secretary.

53.5 percent said Article 309 should be maintained. Article 309 will lead to amnesty for political culprits. This is quite a controversy as Thaksin can get the amnesty and get his confiscated assets worth about 70 billion back.
