Bangkok - Army chief Gen Anupong Paochinda led a team to hold a press conference on solution to end the political crisis, suggesting PM Somchai Wongsawat resign and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) stop rallying.
The press conference happened after a joint meeting with the government and private agencies and academics for two and a half hours.
The group suggested Somchai dissolve parliament to render power to the people while asking the PAD to end their protests.
Gen Anupong emphasized the group had a good intention to bring the country back to peace without using any violence.
He said that the group consisted of representatives from various sectors and promoted the democratic principle as well as law.
The PAD has occupied the Government House and the Suvarnabhumi Airport to press Somchai government to resign.
Somchai has not come back to Thailand yet after attending the APEC meeting in Peru last week.
The army chief planned to submit the group’s proposal to the government the soonest.
