Bangkok - The business sector and academics called on the government to dissolve parliament and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) to stop protests.
Narong Tananuvat, chairman of Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce, revealed the Thai Chamber of Commerce meeting agreed the government should dissolve parliament while the PAD should stop protests.
Phitsanulok Chamber of Commerce supported such proposal. Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat should resign to end the conflict, according to the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Somying Chairatmanokorn, secretary of the Yala Chamber of Commerce, thought the result of the meeting reflected the private sector’s standpoint.
She said the government should give an opportunity to the ad-hoc government to solve the problem.
Khon Kaen University’s lecturer Koon Toekhan said Sulak Sivarak’s advice for the premier to ask for HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s solution to the political problem was the best choice.
However, Assoc Prof Siripong Ladawan Na Ayutthaya, political science academic, disagreed to such advice.
He said it was the premier’s duty to solve the problem according to the democratic principles and good governance, and choices were dissolution or resignation.
Mrs. Kwandee Sripairoj, rector of the Tapee University, viewed the current political crisis was the worst in the history.
