Bangkok - Army chief Anupong Paochinda insisted there would be no military coup, believing the situation would not escalate.
Anupong revealed the army had a plan to deal with clashes between the pro-government group and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD).
Asked about the clashes between police and the PAD, he said the Royal Thai Police confirmed police would not use violence against the protesters.
Anupong said the army would stand by people’s side, try all possible measures to prevent any violence, and rely on the judicial process to solve the country’s problem.
Asked if he needed to directly report to the Interior Minister Kovit Wattana, the army chief said Kovit did not contact him.
Previously, a group of the People Power Party (PPP) MPs led by Lopburi MP Amnuay Klangpha said the Royal Thai Police Commissioner-General Patcharawat Wongsuwan should resign if he could not control the situation.
