Bangkok - The National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC) last week called off memorandum of understandings (MoUs) to purchase electricity from Laos.
Energy Minister Dr. Wannarat Charnnukul said the NEPC meeting resolved those MoUs be cancelled.
The cancellation was because of increasing construction costs.
Thailand previously planned to buy electricity from the Hongsa Lignite, Nam Ngiab, Nam-U, Nam Theun 1 and Nam Nguem 3 projects.
Some electricity was commercially supplied into the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) system after previous contracts with Laos.
Nam Pleun Boon and Huay Hoah projects are examples of the previous projects.
Three more projects are going to supply electricity to the system.
