Bangkok - Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat cancelled his trip to Cambodia for border talks as well as his visit to other neighboring countries amidst heated politics at home.

Somchai called off his trips to Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar next week.
He previously planned to meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday to settle the border spat.

A government official confirmed the cancellation and no reason was given.

The premier was scheduled to visit Laos on Sunday October 12 and stay overnight in Cambodia before making his official visit on Monday 13.

PM Somchai was much criticized for relying on police crackdown to get into parliament to present his policies on Monday 7.

He is former premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s brother-in-law.

The government promised to set up an independent committee to look into bloody clashes between police and PAD protesters.

At least one Cambodian soldier and two Thai troops were wounded when units exchanged gunfire during a brief clash on October 3 near an ancient temple in the area.
