Bangkok - Nearly thirty educational institutes jointly issued a statement to give four proposals to Somchai government concerning violent incidents during the past two days.
Surapol Nitikraipoj, rector of Thammasat University, had a meeting with rectors and delegates from other universities for three hours.
Delegates were from both government and private universities.
They agreed to submit four proposals to the government to show their standpoint for yesterday’s clashes between the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators and police.
First, they extended regret at losses in the society, calling all parties to stop using violence and the PAD protesters not to make movement so as to avoid clashes.
Second, they urged PM Somchai Wongsawat to dissolve the parliament to give power back to people, so that the political problem would be solved.
Third, they wanted the government to set up an independent committee to find out facts about happening incidents and ensure this kind of situation would not occur again.
Last, they also called all political parties to enter the electoral system after dissolution and announce policy to support the political reform.
