Bangkok - The agriculture ministry signed a contract to buy 100,000 tons of urea fertilizer from Malaysia.

Agriculture Minister Somsak Prissanananthakul presided over the contract signing ceremony on November 7.

The contract signing was between Thailand’s agricultural cooperative and Malaysia’s Petronas.

It was expected the first lot of fertilizer would be imported on November 15.

The fertilizer would be allocated through the agricultural cooperative since November 19 onwards.

Not more than one ton of fertilizer would be allotted to each farmer under the management of the Cooperative Promotion Department.

The price of imported fertilizer remains at about 14,000 baht per ton excluding the packaging and transportation costs of 2,500 baht per ton.

Such price is lower than the market price – at least 7,000 baht per ton.
