Bangkok - About 40 People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators were injured in violent clashes in Udon Thani yesterday.

It was reported at least three protesters were seriously injured after being attacked by the pro-government group.

"We are still gathering information and cannot give any further details," a police officer at the police station in Udon Thani city told AFP.

The so-called PAD group in Udon Thani was heavily attacked by members of the Khon Rak Udon group when preparing for a rally.

Charoen Mookajornphan, leader of the anti-government group allied with the PAD, said the Khon Rak Udon group wanted to kill his group’s members and the police failed to stop it.

The Khon Rad Udon group was led by Kwanchai Praipan and Agriculture Minister Theerachai Saenkaew's younger brother.

The members of the group came with knives, wood and iron bars.

There were more than 1,000 of them while about 500 policemen were on duty in front of Nongprachak Park.

Kwanchai, DJ and owner of 97.50FM local radio station, was said to have a good relationship with the then-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
