Bangkok - The Meteorological Department issued its announcement to warn Thai people of heavy rain in the northeast.
The Mekhala tropical storm was about 200 kilometres east of Nakhon Panom province.
It was expected the storm would reach upper Vietnam this morning and would become a depression tending to move to the northeastern part of Thailand.
People were warned of flash floods caused by heavy rain and mountain run-off during these few days (September 30-October 2).
Risk areas include Nakhon Panom, Mukdahan, Kalasin, Nongkhai, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Mahasarakam, Roi-et, Buriram and Surin.
Other risk areas are Amnajcharoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sakaew, Chanthaburi, Trad, Chiang Rai, Payao, Nan, Uttaradit, and Phetchabun.
The southwest monsoon covered the upper Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand was powerful. Waves would be more than two metres high.
Fishermen should be careful about navigation during September 30-October 1.
