Bangkok - Egat Governor Sombat Santijaree confirmed the Ft cost during October-January will certainly rise due to soaring oil prices.
The Ft cost hike is due to rising natural gas price based on oil prices. Natural gas is used for power generation.
The regulators will try to handle the cost, so that it does not affect Thai people much.
It was expected the power cost would be in the downturn as oil prices declined.
Sombat said that Egat was ready to still bear the cost burden for people as it still had good liquidity.
The company planned to issue two-billion-baht bonds in October to raise funds for investing in its projects.
A source in the energy circle primarily estimated that the Ft cost could go up 0.30-0.45 baht per unit.
A regulator meeting between Egat, PTT Plc and energy ministry will be called tomorrow to find ways to help relieve people’s burden.
Chulalongkorn University was assigned to study how to improve the electricity service for people.
