Bangkok - Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin met with the directors of 15 Thonburi districts to seek measures to cope with the storm surge.
The storm surge was said to affect many seaside areas including nearby provinces like Samut Prakan.
The red zones or risk areas are from the seaside to Sanamchai canal, covering 10-15 kilometres of distance.
The orange zones include Bangkhuntien, Tung Kru, Rajburana and Jomthong district. The distance from the sea to Rama II Road is less than twenty kilometers.
Smith Thammasaroj, chairman of the National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC), previously warned Thai people of the storm surge.
But he was criticized for overstating the impact of it.
It was reported Smith planned to quit his job as the chairman of the NDWC.
Unlike tsunami, the prediction of the storm surge can be made 4-6 days in advance by the Meteorological Department.
Storm surge or tidal surge is an offshore rise of water associated with a tropical cyclone. It is caused by high winds pushing on the ocean’s surface.
