Bangkok - It is possible that storms in the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea will come to the Gulf of Thailand during October-November. But they will not as powerful as the Cyclone Nargis.

The storm surge used to take place in Thailand three times in 1962, 1989 and 1997 respectively.

Thai people were asked not to become panicked as the storm surge would not as violent as the Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, according to the meteorological department.

The department is able to give its prediction of the storm at least five to ten days in advance.

It is least possible that the so-called storm would take place in Samut Prakan and cause a big flood in Bangkok, according to Chulalongkorn University’s START.

Southeast Asia is one of the eight existing regions of the Global Change System for Analysis Research and Training (START).

Unlike tsunami, the storm surge will not take place suddenly.

It was reported that Prachuap, Chumporn and Surat Thani were at high risk concerning the possibility of storm surge to take place.
