Bangkok - The Meteorological Department (MD) forecast storms would enter the Gulf of Thailand during June-September, confirming of no cyclone in May.

Somchai Baimuang, director of the MD’s weather forecast office, said Thailand would not face a severe cyclone like Myanmar.

Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar on May 2, leaving about 133,000 people dead and missing.

He added that the cyclone tended to move to India and Bangladesh more.

Normally, when a storm takes place, that will signal Thailand’s rainy season begins.

It is possible that a depression will come to the upper part of Thailand. Usually, a cyclone tends to go to Vietnam and Laos first.

Storms will come to the lower part of the Gulf of Thailand during October-December.

The Meteorological Department is able to forecast the weather seven days in advance.
