Bangkok - Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said the government was keen to solve the water problem, planning to set aside 300,000 million baht of budget for water-related projects.
The premier yesterday presided over a special seminar on Thailand’s policy on water resource management.
Bhumibol and Sirikit dam were mentioned as the examples of how the dams could benefit the farming and electricity generation in 32 provinces nationwide.
The Mekong reservoir project was also discussed.
Samak said he understood the water crisis problem and thought more dams construction was necessary.
The prime minister plans to go to Laos in next two-three days to inspect the Nam Ngeum dam project as well as the Nam Ngeum 2 and 3 project.
The inspection tour is to link those dam projects to the northeastern part of Thailand.
The water system link in the north and northeast will also be studied to support the agricultural sector.
