Bangkok - People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) coordinator Mr. Suriyasai Katasila asked if Thai people agreed to the constitution amendments, also urging them to discuss how the charter change should be done.

Suriyasai said the PAD’s proposal was that the government should hold a referendum on charter change first.

If people want to amend the 2007 constitution, they should discuss how it is done. The PAD agrees if the Constitution-Drafting Assembly is set up again to work on amendments.

If people do not want the charter change, the issue should then be suspended.

The PAD has long proposed a referendum should be held before making any changes to the charter.

But the People Power Party (PPP) MPs just want to amend the constitution in haste.

Prime Minister Samak said he would ask for the cabinet’s approval to spend two billion baht to hold the referendum.

However, Democrat Party executive Mr. Sathit Wongnongtoei previously announced his party disagreed to the premier’s proposal and amendments as that would lead to the national crisis.
