Bangkok - The Democrat Party issued its first communique, calling for the withdrawal of the charter amendments.
The party’s executive Mr. Sathit Wongnongtoei said his party disagreed with the People Power Party (PPP) MPs concerning the amendments.
The amendments are considered to benefit the PPP and its parties.
Democrat Party believes the 2007 constitution has no articles which obstruct the government’s administration.
Sathit said the PPP just wanted to amend the charter to benefit the ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
He added that the ulterior motives could be seen from the way the PPP collected the signatures to submit the motion of the charter change.
The premier’s proposal to hold a referendum is not proper as it wastes the country’s budget unnecessarily.
The amendments will lead to the national crisis and bring conflicts in the society.
The Democrat Party called for taking the motion out of the parliament immediately, also urging PM Samak Sundaravej to express his sincerity that he did not involve in such a nation damaging support.
