Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 73.70 percent of the respondents knew that the National Thai Language Day would fall on July 29 of the year, according to a survey.
Culture ministry surveyed 6,625 youths aged 15-18 years.
87.45 percent said additional reading should be done apart from the Thai language teaching and learning in class.
68.40 percent thought that children and general public gained knowledge about Thai language from television programs the most.
Mistakes in Thai language were mostly influenced by teenagers (48.30%) and soap operas (35.60%).
80.90 percent and 67.70 percent said education ministry and culture ministry played an important role in promoting the proper use of Thai language.
The government was urged to give importance to Thai language more.
It was also recommended that the analytical skill should be emphasized whereas a committee on the use of Thai language should be established.
