Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Deputy PM Suthep Thaugsuban ensured the safety of the ASEAN summits in Pattaya, asking Metropolitan police chief to arrest fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra and leaders of the Democractic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD).
Suthep confirmed major summits would take place as scheduled despite the political turmoil staged by the red shirts.
It was reported that Metropolitan police are gathering evidence to arrest former prime minister Thaksin and DAAD leaders.
The ASEAN +3 and +6 summits are set to occur on April 10-12.
About 2,000 red shirts led by Arisman Pongruangrong reportedly moved to the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, Pattaya to obstruct the Abhisit administration.
The anti-government group insisted they would allow leaders of foreign countries to enter the hotel to attend the summits.
Local TV channels reported that the red lovers separately blocked traffic on some business roads in Bangkok to be in line with movements in provinces.
Gen Chaisith Shinawatra, former army chief and Thaksin’s elder brother, admitted he is staying abroad. But he refused to say if he would travel to Taiwan or not.
He insisted his travel was not politically motivated.
Nonetheless, Chaisith denied giving his opinion to confirm if Yaowapa Wongsawat and Yingluck Shinawatra are about to travel abroad.
