Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – The Department of Land Transport (DLT) planned measures to control the quality of public vehicles, urging vehicle owners to get check service before traveling.

Pollution-free engines will be focused before licences are renewed.

Public buses are currently forced to undergo vehicle examination twice a year. However, it is suggested they should take the examination four times a year.

Such policy seems to not work well because of high costs.

It was proposed that general vehicles should also get the vehicle examination.

Chairat Sanguanchue, DLT director-general, said the department had to carefully consider the issue, so that it would not benefit companies providing the check service.

Local newspapers earlier reported that carbonyl produced in gasohol mostly caused the air pollution.

Nevertheless, DLT blamed the cause of air pollution in cities on diesel oil which had incomplete burning.
