Thais people expect ASEAN Summit will be a success despite red shirts’ rally

Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 91 percent gave importance to the 14th ASEAN Summit hosting and 72 percent expected the event would be held successfully, according to a poll.

Bangkok University surveyed 1,210 respondents from all walks of life in Bangkok. Respondents were 18 years old up and the survey was conducted during February 21-23.

50.6 percent of the respondents were males whereas 49.4 percent were females.

91.3 percent knew that Thailand would host the summit between February 27 and March 1 while 8.7 percent did not know.

72.2 percent believed that the government and relating units would successfully host the event whereas 27.8 percent were not confident.

Thais mostly expected the summit would help boost the country’s tourism, increase cooperation between Thailand and ASEAN members, and improve Thailand’s image on the international stage respectively.

49.6 percent were worried about the rally of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) while 26.2 percent concerned about how Thai people would be affected by the impact of agreements Thailand is going to sign.

42.6 percent were curious about economic benefits Thailand would get while 33.9 percent wanted to know how Thailand would be affected by international agreements, and 8.3 percent about major topics of the summit.
