Bangkok (Manager Online) - 18 more trains will be available to serve increasing travel demand during the New Year’s Festival, according to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
10 round-trip trains will be added to the 264 existing trains as part of the measures to deal with rising traffic volumes during the festive season.
Services will be available on December 29-30, covering routes such as Bangkok-Sila-ars, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani and Bangkok-Udon Thani.
8 more trains will be added on December 4. Routes include Sila-ars-Bangkok, Ubon Ratchanthani-Bangkok, Udon Thani-Bangkok and Srisaket-Bangkok.
The number of compartments will also be raised from 12 to 16 and from 14 to 16 on all trains so as to serve the passengers.
SRT Governor Yutthana Thapcharoen believed this would be able to cope with 10 percent more of passengers.
There are about 110,000 passengers per day.
The number of passengers soared 30 percent during the closure of the Don Muang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, according to Yutthana.
