Bangkok - The free train service was welcomed well by Thai people and the number of service users was more than three million in August, according to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
Yuthana Thapcharoen, SRT Governor, revealed the free train scheme was part of the government’s six-month measures to help Thais survive the economic crisis.
The so-called measures have been launched since August 1.
The SRT adjusted its service criterion to be in line with the budget given by the Bureau of the Budget.
Tickets would be issued for adult passengers and the general public so that the number of service users could be easily examined.
The SRT got about 250-million-baht budget allocation for the six-month free train scheme.
The highest number of service users for this scheme was in the southern line followed by the northeastern, northern, eastern, and Maeklong line respectively.
