Bangkok - The number of boat passengers was expected to pick up after the boat fares were reduced in line with dropping diesel oil price, according to the Chao Phraya Express Boat Co Ltd.

The fare cuts have started since September 22.

The diesel oil price has continuously fallen and remained at 30.74 baht per litre.

The company hoped the fare cuts would help reduce Thai people’s financial burden.

The number previously decreased up to 3,000 passengers per day after the fare hikes. Normally, the number of passengers was 30,000-50,000 per day.

The Chao Phraya Express Boat Co Ltd coordinated with the energy business department to turn to the use of biodiesel or NGV as a source of fuel.

The changing process was expected to take about two years.

Two-baht fare cuts are for the orange and yellow-flagged express boats while one-baht fare cut for the regular boat.

The ferry fare fell 0.50 baht, and this only applies to a pier which has not more than 5,000 passengers per day.

Saensaeb boat fare declined two baht.
