Bangkok - The ASEAN Summit will take place at the end of February after being put off because of political turmoil, according to the foreign ministry.

The 14th summit is scheduled to happen on February 24-26.
The summit was originally set to occur in mid-December. However, the plan was later changed as the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) seized the Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Muang Airport.

Somchai government postponed the event hosting to until March.
Democrat Party leader and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva wanted to see the summit take place earlier, hoping the event would help the country boost confidence.

The foreign ministry already cancelled the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s red or diplomatic passport, but denying giving comments on the issue.

The annoucement of the cancellation happened after the Democrat Party successfully joined other small parties to vote for Abhisit as the new premier.
It was reported Thaksin’s passport has been revoked since December 12.
