Bangkok - Several coffee councils in provinces agreed that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra should come back to get his punishment so that the political situation would improve.
The Supreme Court yesterday gave its verdict of two years in jail to the ex-premier.
The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) protesters hailed the verdict while Thaksin said the verdict was politically motivated.
People who gathered at a coffee council in Chiang Mai thought that Thaksin would not come back to fight the accusations.
People at Phitsanulok’s coffee council said those who kept up with the Ratchadapisek land case understood the situation and had more confidence in judicial process.
Satun people agreed that the then-premier should set a good example by coming back to get his punishment.
Songkhla people viewed the case reflected the importance of the judicial review which the Thai society could rely on.
People in other provinces believed the country would be in turmoil if Thaksin was put in jail. All parties were urged to solve the problem to bring back peace.
