Bangkok - The interior ministry joined the United Nations (UN) to encourage the poor to fight poverty themselves.
Peerapol Traitasavit, permanent secretary of interior ministry, revealed October 17 of each year was the international no-poverty day.
Poor people in 75 provinces were encouraged to fight poverty during October 17-19.
Government units, local units and Thai people joined forces to deal with the poverty problem.
Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat presided over the launch of the no-poverty day activity held in Ayutthaya.
People were urged to follow HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s self-sufficiency philosophy.
