Bangkok - Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat last night told Thai people nationwide that he was sorry for the October 7 incident, adding that his resignation would not solve the political conflict.
Somchai has been under pressure since violent clashes between police and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators last week.
"Many people have called on the government to dissolve the House or for the prime minister to resign," he said.
He insisted he did not stick to the premier post and would resign if that could make things better. However, he said his government was not convinced resignation could solve the political problem.
Gen Salang Bunnag vowed to take the Government House back from the protesters so that the government could do their duty as usual.
Last night, the PAD leaders changed their mind to lead the protesters to the Royal Thai Police headquarters on October 13 for fear they would be attacked by the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) members.
They claimed police would take a chance while the PAD group went to the Royal Thai Police headquarters to disperse protesters at the Government House.
Rumor has it that the DAAD members planned to mess things up at the Government House which is occupied by the PAD demonstrators on October 14.
