Bangkok - It is highly possible that Thailand will be able to export more rice in the remaining four months of this year, according to the department of foreign trade.
Mrs. Apiradee Tantraporn, director general of the department of foreign trade, talked about the rice situation that the rice demand was still high among the importing countries.
It was estimated Thailand would be able to export about 9.5-10 million tons of rice this year.
That would yield Thailand about 6,000 million US dollars.
Major export markets are Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, the Phillippines, Malaysia, European Union, Iraq and Ivory Coast.
Thailand has already exported 8.08 million tons of rice worth about 158,857 million baht.
The figures rose from 5.79 million tons last year, up 39.48%.
It was estimated the rice situation would not fluctuate much next year. The world trade volumes were expected to remain at 28.25 million tons.
Major rice exporters would still be Thailand, Vietnam, the USA, Pakistan and India.
