Bangkok - The number of people killed in floods went up to 26 whereas 1.6 million people were affected by the bad weather, according to the interior ministry.

Many parts of Thailand have been affected by floods caused by heavy monsoon.

Heavy rain could be seen in 36 of Thailand’s 76 provinces, starting since September onwards.

Houses and farmland were damaged. The losses were worth more than 16 million dollars.

"The situation at present has improved in 26 provinces. Only the situation in the other five provinces continues to need monitoring," the interior ministry said in a statement.

2,700 houses, 3,404 roads, 15 schools and 28 temples were destroyed.

Affected farmland covered about 1.38 million acres of area. The repairing costs were estimated at more than 16 million dollars.

Officials warned people in low land of flash floods and mudslides.
