Bangkok - Vegetable prices mostly soared more than 50% as many provinces nationwide were flooded, according to commerce ministry.

The prices of agricultural products and fresh food also increased after floods.

Another factor for hiking product prices was the Vegetarian Festival which would take place during September 28-October 7.

The prices of vegetables, especially those used during the festival, began to hike, according to agriculture ministry.

Vegetables used during the Vegetarian festival included cabbage, Chinese kale, yard long bean and winged bean.

Crops in several areas were damaged due to heavy rain. However, the farmlands were not affected much compared to paddy fields.

The vegetable prices will normally rise by 2-15 baht per kilogram during the festival.

The price of coriander soared from 50 to 150 baht per kilogram whereas the price of Chinese cabbage from 20 to 40 baht per kilogram in Pattalung.

In Pattani, the Chinese-Thai people regularily came to buy vegetables at the market though the prices went up.
