Bangkok - The appointment of Saroj Chavanaviraj as Thailand’s new foreign minister was endorsed by HM the King.
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej proposed Mr. Saroj, 66, to replace Tej Bunnag.
Tej who resigned last week only took the office for a few months.
He cited his wife’s health as a reason for resignation. It was reported Samak tried to persuade Tej not to resign but failed.
PM Samak yesterday told people on a weekly radio program that there would be no military coup.
Both Supreme Commander General Boonsrang Niumpradit and army chief Gen Anupong Paochinda confirmed there would be no coup as well.
The Constitutional Court will tomorrow give its verdict on a case against Samak concerning the TV cooking program.
