Constitution amendments cause violent conflict

Bangkok - Most of Thai people believed there would be more violent conflict if the government went ahead with the charter change, according to NIDA poll.

1,920 respondents were surveyed during July 31-August 3.

They were from Bangkok and adjourning provinces, northeast, central region, north and south.

The respondents were 18-70 years old, from various educational backgrounds and walks of life.

63.9% believed the government would not be able to complete the charter change during this parliamentary session.

69.4% thought the constitution amendments would lead to more violent conflict.

50.2% said the juridical proceeding could end the present political conflicts while 41.1% thought it could not.

52.4% believed the police would be able to handle the rallies without violence while 44.8% said they would not.

55.8% of Thais supported the enforcement of the Security Act while 38.7% did not.
