Bangkok - Thai people mostly wanted to give the online lottery a try, but they would still buy the underground lottery, according to a survey.
The survey was conducted in the Sapan Mai area.
The respondents said they were familiar with the illegal lottery as the buying process was not as complex as that of the online lottery.
The government lottery vendors believed it would be difficult for people to access the online lottery. As a result, sales would not be affected.
The lottery bookmakers were believed to possibly be those who were the illegal lottery bookmakers.
Somchai Jitsuchon, director of Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), said the online lottery was not that bad and the government could spend the proceeds properly.
The Government Lottery Office (GLO) plans to first sell the online lottery on September 17.
The online lottery will be available on October 1.
Bookmakers will be recruited during August 18-20. This will also be open to the disabled on August 21-22 at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mark.
