Bangkok - A group of Bangkhunthien people submitted three requests to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to call for the cancellation of using plastic boxes to cope with erosion problem.

Mr. Seksai Chinjachom, coordinator of the Rak Thalae Krungthep group, sent a letter to Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin to oppose the use of plastic boxes to deal with the erosion in Bangkhunthien area.

The plastic boxes with stones inside would be laid in the shape of L and T letter to cover five kilometers of distance.

Seksai said the villagers wanted the construction of the dam against waves. The dam is supposed to look similar to that of Ban Khun Samutchin, Samut Prakan province.

The use of the plastic boxes was objected by the group as it is not known whether the change will affect people’s way of life and eco-system or not.

The group demanded a working group should be set up and villagers should participate in the working group.

It is said the environmental and social impact of the use of the plastic boxes should also be made public.
