Bangkok - Violent media played an important role in causing crimes against body and life, according to the Ramathibodi Hospital survey.
539 male prisoners at Klong Prem prison were surveyed in January. The respondents aged between 19 and 72 years.
71.2% said violent media affected the wrongdoing while most crimes were based on alcohol drinking (65.4%).
Other factors causing crimes were provocation and drugs respectively.
Most prisoners came from families which did not have debt problem and had the supportive environment.
The survey reflected the good support, fair economic status and supportive environment might not be able to prevent them from committing crimes.
Media made them imitate some aggressive behaviors and could not control their feelings.
Families were urged to pay more attention to looking after the youths so that youths would stay away from prisons.
