Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – More than 1,000 prisoners spent time on completing their bachelor’s degree, and law was the most popular field, according to the department of corrections.
Justice Minister Peerapan Saleeratthavipak had an idea to support prisoners who finished their law study to become people’s lawyers. This is a scheme to create jobs for prisoners.
7,495 prisoners furthered their study in the bachelor’s degree level, according to a survey. 1,188 people completed their study.
The department has joined Sukhothai Thammathirat University to support the project. Law was the most favorite subject.
425 people got degrees in law while 207 people in business administration and 186 people in agricultural promotion.
Other fields such as mass communication, political science, arts, economics and home economics are also available.
Most of the prisoners used their knowledge to petition and call for punishment reduction.
