Bangkok - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to penetrate the South African market, focusing on the high-end group. It will also hold road shows in neighboring countries to maintain its revenue.

To boost tourism during the low season, TAT will aggressively penetrate the high-potential markets such as South Africa and Europe.

It already held a road show in Johannesburg.

It was found that South African people did not know much about Thailand’s tourist attractions.

South African market growth is averagely 10% per year. More than 46,000 tourists from South Africa visited Thailand in 2007.

The average spending was about 4,700 baht per person per day.

Thai embassy will hold the Thai Festival in South Africa in September to present Thai tourist attractions to the target groups.

TAT will also hold its road shows in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and China.

It still maintains the revenue target of 600,000 million for the overseas market at the end of the year.

420,000 million baht of revenue is expected in the domestic market.
