Bangkok - Thailand fell to the 90th place as the world’s favorite tourist destination while Singapore jumped up to the 42th place, according to World Economic Forum ranking.
Malaysia came in the 28th place.
Panu Voramitr, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, south office, region 5, said the environmental problem is partly due to the tourism industry.
Foreign tourists currently prefer to visit the countries which give importance to the environmental problem.
Panu revealed three major retailers at Koh Samui would be asked to give their cooperation in reducing the use of plastic bags.
World Economic Forum is a Geneva-based foundation whose annual meeting of top business leaders, national political leaders (presidents, prime ministers and others), and selected intellectuals and journalists is usually held in Davos, Switzerland.
It was founded in 1971 by Klaus M. Schwab, a business professor in Switzerland.
