Bangkok - Thai fruit growers were encouraged to improve the quality of their tropical fruit so as to be able to compete internationally, according to department of agriculture extension.
Thailand is currently the world’s major tropical fruit exporter.
Thai exported fruit such as pineapple, longan, mango, durian, mangosteen and lychee are famous for its good and unique taste.
Exports are in the form of fresh, frozen, canned and processed fruit.
The export value was more than 48 billion baht last year. Major export markets are China, Japan and India.
The export market will be extended to cover the United States and Europe.
Olarn Pitak, deputy director-general of the Department of Agricultural Extension, revealed Thailand targeted 50 billion baht of fruit exports.
