Bangkok - The renovations of Chiang Mai International Airport will be finished in January 2009, according to deputy director of Chiang Mai International Airport.

The airport will then be able to serve up to eight million passengers per year.

It currently serves 3.2 million passengers – 6 million domestic passengers and 2 million foreign passengers.

Up to 95% cut in the landing fee is offered to attract airlines to directly fly to the airport.

Korean Air already expressed its interest in flying directly to the airport.

Chiang Mai International Airport will also be used as the regional hub of fruit and vegetables transport.

Locating in Chiang Mai, the airport is the major gateway to the north of Thailand.

In 2005, it served 10 airlines, 15,000 flights and 16,000 metric tons of cargo.
