Bangkok - The provincial police yesterday joined the Department of Employment to arrest alien workers who illegally entered Thailand for work.
927 Burmese, Laotian and Cambodian workers were arrested. They mostly worked at the Tai, Si Moom Muang and Sanambinnam Market.
Pairoj Suksamrit, director-general of the Department of Employment, said most of the alien workers were employed for carrying the vegetables and fruit handcarts, and taking care of the rubbish.
More than half of them illegally came to work in Thailand.
These workers face not more than five years of imprisonment and 2,000-100,000 baht of fine. They will also be repatriated.
The employers will be fined 10,000-100,000 baht per one worker.
The department warned the employers to have their alien workers register so that they could get the licences to work here legally.
Licence renewal can be made until June 30.
