Bangkok - Lot of women went to the district offices to change their name titles back to Ms. Most of them are divorced.
The service at the Huay Kwang District did not run smoothly at first as officials had to be careful about the documents.
One of the service users said she wanted the Thai society, especially men to understand women should be entitled to choose their name titles.
The new name titles law is effective today, allowing women to choose their name titles and surnames.
The atmosphere was quite busy in Surat Thani province as several widows came to use the service. Most of them were glad they could use the Ms title again.
Officials warned that women should make sure their legal documents are correct so that they would not lose their right to choose their titles.
The service is available only on workdays and at 8.30 am-4.30 pm.
