Chiang Rai - The 2.6-magnitude earthquake took place in Myanmar this morning. The earthquake’s epicenter is about 200 kilometres from Chiang Rai province.
Chiang Rai meteorological station checked and reported the earthquake at 8.13 am.
The vibration took place at Sakaeng fault, a big fault in Myanmar which passes Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son and Chiang Rai.
Sompol Supakarn, head of the meteorological station, said the earthquake did not affect Chiang Rai as it was just the small earthquake.
He revealed the province was prepared to cope with the earthquake as the earthquake-checking devices were installed at three points.
Those three points are in Mae Lao, Muang and Chiang Khong District.
The devices will be automatically linked to the Meteorological Department in the central region.
