Bangkok - Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin yesterday inspected the disaster prevention system and the structure of the high-rise buildings in Sathorn and Bangrak District.
Apirak did visit the Banyan Tree Hotel (formerly known as Westin Banyan Tree) in Sathorn District and Assumption Bangrak School in Bangrak District.
This is part of the measures to cope with public disasters like earthquake and fire, and boost confidence in life and assets safety.
Both the hotel and school have good construction system in compliance with relating building laws.
They also hold the earthquake and fire evacuation rehearsal every three month.
Apirak revealed 3,000 high-rise buildings in Bangkok are at risk.
Officials from the Public Works and City Planning Department, Department of Prevention and Relief of Public Disasters, and District Office were sent to check to ensure the safety of buildings and schools in each area.
The new ministerial regulation which has been effective since 30 November, 2007 enforces the buildings to serve the vibration of the earthquake.
