MD warns of heavy rain in north, central region

Bangkok - The Meteorological Department (MD) warns of heavy rain in the north and central region due to Cyclone Nargis. Heavy rain will continue until May 5.

The Cyclone Nargis is southwest of Mae Hong Son province, with the maximum wind speed of about 130 kilometres per hour.

Risky areas include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Lampun, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukothai, Pichit, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi and Ranong.

The Cyclone Nargis reached Myanmar last night .

People are warned of flash floods and mountain run-off.

135.1 millimetres of rain amount was measured in Tak province on April 30, compared to the maximum rain amount of 58.7 millimetres in the same month of last year.

Two-metre waves are expected in the Andaman Sea and Over-two-metre waves in the areas which are at heavy rain risk.
